Castine celebrates Independence Day

The Castine Fourth of July parade and celebration on the Town Common was well attended despite temperatures in the high 80s by 10 a.m. on July 4. The parade featured festive costumes and decorated bikes and flags, while even family pets donned Independence Day garb for the occasion. After the parade, attendees were treated to hot dogs, cotton candy, watermelon, lemonade and more while participating in tug of war, sack races and fire truck rides courtesy of the Castine Fire Department. A concert held by the Castine Town Band took place later in the afternoon, and the festivities were topped off with fireworks that evening.
