Store Usage Questions


How do I order items from the store?

To order, books, maps, and/or other products from the Penobscot Bay Press Community Storefront, simply follow links to any item you wish to order then click "Add to Cart," and this product will be kept in your own personal shopping cart file. To order or renew subscriptions, simply fill out and submit the applicable form, and your subscription will be added to your shopping cart along with any other items you've chosen to order. You may check the contents of your cart at any time by clicking the shopping cart icon at the top of our Storefront pages. When you're finished shopping, you may proceed to our secure checkout area from your shopping cart page.


Do I need to turn on cookies in my browser to use the store?

YES, please be sure your web browser is set to allow cookies; otherwise, you won't be able to use our online store.


Do I need to register to use the store?

Registration is not required to browse the store, but to order anything from us you will be required to register. You may also—but are not required to—keep your credit card information securely on file with us. Please see our Privacy Policy for more information.


Do I need a credit card to use the store?

Currently the only method of payment that we accept in our online store is a credit card. If you would like to purchase products or subscriptions from us using a different method, please call or visit one of our offices in Stonington (207-367-2200), Blue Hill(207-374-2341) or Castine(207-326-9300).


Do I need an email address to use the store?

YES, to conduct any type of e-commerce you need an e-mail address. Your account is based on your e-mail address and your order confirmation is sent to an e-mail address. Subscription renewal notices are also sent to your e-mail address. Penobscot Bay Press will never sell or give out your e-mail address to anyone. Please see our Privacy Policy for more information. During checkout you have the option to opt out of any future mailings from Penobscot Bay Press.

If you do not have an e-mail address, or if you do not want to give out your primary e-mail address, there are a number of sources online where you can get free e-mail accounts (www.hotmail.com, www.yahoo.com, www.care2.com).


How do I use the Wish List?

Once you've registered, you may save a Wish List of items you'd like to order at another time. Click "Add to Wish List" to store these items for future purchase; you may then log in later, visit your wish list, and move any saved items to your shopping cart for checkout (by clicking the move-to-cart icon on your Wish List page). While shopping, you may similarly move items from your active cart to your wish list for future purchase.


Is my credit card information safe?

Penobscot Bay Press Community Storefront uses industry-standard SSL (secure socket layer) server technology to ensure that all purchases are safe and secure. Please see our Privacy Policy for more information.


Shipping Questions


How are orders shipped?

All orders are shipped via United States Postal Service (USPS). Unless you specify first class shipping when ordering, all books and videos are shipped at the book/media rate and all other items are shipped at the ground rate. How long will it take for an order to reach me?

All items will be shipped in a timely fashion for delivery in 5-10 business days, 51 weeks of the year. Our offices are closed during Christmas week. No orders will ship during that week.


How are the maps shipped?

All maps are rolled, then put into tubes for shipping. If you do not want your map rolled, please visit one of our three offices during business hours to purchase your map.


It's been more than 10 business days and I haven't received my order.
What do I do?

Please use the form at the top of this page to send an e-mail to us. If you would prefer to call us directly, please call 207-374-2341 for all subscription orders or 207-326-9300 for all other orders.


Can I ship items to more than one address?

At the present time, we do not ship products (excluding subscriptions) to more than one address. If you would like different items shipped to different addresses, please place separate orders for the different shipments.


Product/Policy Questions


Will the DVDs play on my DVD player?

All the DVDs that we sell are region-free, are in DVD-R format and should play on most commercial DVD players. If the DVD does not play, please return the defective DVD and we will send you a replacement, free of charge.


When will my subscription become active?

All subscription orders (new subscriptions, gift subscriptions, renewals or address changes) must be placed by 1 p.m. on Tuesday to be effective with that week's paper. All orders received after 1 p.m. on Tuesday will be effective the following week. Penobscot Bay Press publishes 51 weeks of the year. We do not publish papers during the week of Christmas.


My purchase is defective or damaged. Can I get a replacement?

If you received an item that was damaged or defective, please send it back and we will replace it free of charge. Please send all returns to: Penobscot Bay Press, P.O. Box 205, 8 Water St., Castine, ME 04421. If you have any questions about returning a product, please call 207-326-9300.


Can I cancel an order?

You can cancel any order before it has shipped, free of charge. Please call 207-374-2341 to cancel a subscription order and 207-326-9300 for other orders. Once an item has shipped, we cannot cancel the order.


What is your returns policy?

You may return any item to us (with the exception of newspaper subscriptions) within 30 days of ordering. You will be refunded the full cost of the item in the method in which you paid. Shipping charges will not be refunded unless there was a mistake made by us or unless the product was damaged/defective. Please send all returns to: Penobscot Bay Press, P.O.
