Deer Isle
Brown announces candidacy

Percy Brown Jr. has announced his candidacy for reelection for Hancock County Commissioner in District II, which includes Bucksport, Verona, Dedham, Penobscot, Castine, Brooksville, Brooklin, Sedgwick, Deer Isle and Stonington. Brown, who is presently serving a second term, is the current chairman of the commission.

Brown says during these tough economic times government needs to examine new ways to provide necessary County services and remain affordable. Several areas he would like to improve are: County government becoming more efficient while still providing quality service. The county building complex needs to be more energy efficient. Working close with local county towns and municipalities to help reduce redundant services, which will provide tax relief. Promote local economic development along with a viable workforce.

Brown, who resides in Deer Isle, is vice president of Percy L. Brown & Son Inc. Plumbing and Heating. He has been active in local affairs having served on a number of local boards and committees. He is a Past Commander of Rodney Stinson Legion Post #102 of Stonington and is currently a Trustee of the Deer Isle-Stonington Historical Society. He also was a part-time Deputy Sheriff for Hancock County for 16 years.

Brown serves on the executive board of Eastern Maine Development Corp, the Tri-County Workforce Investment Board, Advisory Board at Washington County Community College, E-911 Council of Maine, and is chairman of Maine’s Plumber’s Examining Board.

Brown graduated from Deer Isle High School and attended Wentworth Institute in Boston and Southern Maine Technical Institute in Portland. He served in the Vietnam War in 1967-68 as a combat medic and was awarded the Purple Heart. Brown is a member of Marine Lodge #122 of Deer Isle, Rising Star Lodge #4 of Penobscot and Anah Temple Shrine in Bangor.
