Thomas Hinchcliffe’s Antiques and Handmade Furniture
Click here to return to the Seasonal Guide.

WEST SEDGWICK—Thomas Hinchcliffe’s Antiques and Handmade Furniture is a bit out of town and a whole lot out of the ordinary. If you’re seeking a unique experience in antique hunting, one must make the short trip out of Blue Hill to their showroom filled with authentic antiques and accessories. A sense of personal discovery envelopes you when you drive to the spruce surrounded buildings that harbor the treasures that Daphne and Thomas Hinchcliffe have gathered in their journeys along the east coast.

Walk slowly among these treasures—marine carvings, decoys, boat models, rugs, quilts, lamps and shades displayed on country tables, cupboards, blanket chests and chairs. Observe the details on a setback cupboard painted in early American red or blue. Whether you’re filling a home, or rounding off a home, this is the stop you’ve been waiting for. Making a home uniquely yours comes easily when shopping here, with a large variety of items to choose from to warm your home and make it more inviting.

Lovers of true American antiques will appreciate the Hinchcliffe’s efforts to gather these authentic country pieces and display them in their showroom. They strive to sell distinct products at fair prices. First time buyers, experienced antique shoppers and dealers alike will find items far from the ordinary to begin, or round out, their own personal style.

Part of the wonder at Hinchcliffe lies in the discovery of the furniture handmade by Thomas, who, by using antique lumber, creates one of a kind tables and cupboards that families can admire for many generations. Whether using new or antique lumber, their furniture has a distinct and recognizable style.

The Hinchcliffe’s expansive showroom is filled with take-home treasures. But, if your shopping spree exceeds the limit of your vehicle, or you’re on vacation, have no fear, they have plenty of experience in arranging the shipping required to get your purchases to your home. They will gladly help you with that planning.

Reward yourself with a journey to the Hinchcliffe’s in West Sedgwick. From Blue Hill, take Route 176/15 South (the Mine’s Road) 4 miles. At the stop sign turn right with Route 176, (also known as the Graytown Road), and two miles out you’ll see their sign on the right hand side. Take the right onto Cradle Knolls Lane. There may be a chain across the left-hand turn to the showroom. Don’t be shy, go further up the drive and you can’t miss the workshop and house. Summer hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. most days and by appointment or chance at other times. One may want to call ahead if making a special trip and if there is no answer, the answering machine message will indicate if they are making a delivery or just unable to pick up at that time. Please call 326-9411.
