BLUE HILL—The Blue Hill Co-op Community Market and Café is considered to be the heart of the community for many. A thriving co-operative business, it is owned by over 1,400 people—community members committed to supporting the local economy by providing farm-fresh, organic and handmade products.

The Blue Hill Co-op is a full-line grocery store with food and products you can enjoy whether walking along the working waterfronts, sailing along the beautiful coastlines, hiking, biking, or sharing a picnic lunch with loved ones. Easily found on the Ellsworth Road (Route 172) heading north out of Blue Hill, the Co-op’s doors open to a feast of fresh breads as you enter, and from that point, the trail of delight becomes an adventure for the senses. Eyes, ears, and nose are all delighted by what’s found around every corner—the visual display of color in the produce department, the sounds of pleasant conversation in the aisles, and the smells of freshly baked muffins and cookies wafting from the café kitchen.

Shop for your entire family’s meals or stop by for an item or two you can’t find elsewhere. The Co-op offers a generous variety of community-produced items, including fresh produce, meats, eggs, yogurt, handmade artisanal cheeses, wine, beer, raw organic milk in glass jars, chocolates, international foods, spices and staples in bulk—coffee, tea, syrups, oils and vinegars, for starters.

The Café has amazing foods for all occasions, including sandwiches, homemade dips, stir-fry, breakfast items, organic coffee and tea, soups, vegetarian treats, cookies, brownies, cakes and fruit tarts. There is comfortable seating for eating in, as well as cases full of take-out items, so there is something for everyone.

House wares, candles, pet supplies, homeopathic tinctures, certified organic beauty aids and dietary supplements are well stocked. The Co-op is always happy to special order items not in stock. Staff members are dedicated to being available with information and to answer your questions in every department of the store and the café.

Many people are familiar with the Maine slogan, “The way life should be.” The Blue Hill Co-op is one place to experience those values. The Co-op’s careful selection of inventory, its hard-working, friendly staff, and its commitment to customer service and community education reflect the values rooted in this region.

The Blue Hill Co-op seeks to provide you with a wonderful shopping experience while encouraging a vibrant healthy community and a sustainable local economy.

Everyone is welcome at the Co-op. You don’t have to be an owner to shop here. But if you do choose to become an owner, your investment stays in the community, supports local farmers and businesses, supports socially and environmentally responsible purchasing, and helps guarantee the financial success of the business. If for some reason an owner leaves the Co-op, their equity payment is refundable. This is as close to a no-risk investment as one can wish for, providing an opportunity for community-based empowerment and profit sharing.

Experience Maine…experience Maine food at the Blue Hill Co-op!

The Blue Hill Co-op is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 374-2165 or visit www.bluehill.coop
