DEER ISLE The Deer Isle Selectmen will hold a hearing on Thu., July 24, 2008, at 6 p.m. on the Town Hall on a proposed dock located on Little Deer Isle, tax Map 33, lot 11-1. permit is for Elizabeth and Peter Aherne to build a 72 x5 dock with an attached ramp 40 x3 and a float 24 x15 . DEER ISLE The Town of Deer Isle Board of Appeals meeting and hearing scheduled for Wed., July 16, 2008, has been rescheduled and will be held at 6 p.m., Wed., July 23, 2008, at the Deer Isle Town Hall to consider an application by David and Joan Maxwell for a variance on their property, tax map 11, lot #30, together with any other business that may come before the board. SATURDAY, JULY 26, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. the LAST CHANCE to get conservation time required to purchase your Deer Isle-Stonington Clam License. Be at the Stonington Co-op, downtown Stonington, at 8 a.m. to travel by boat to Spruce Island for a clam survey; please bring a life jacket and your hoe. FMI 367-5871 or 367-2617. Again, this is your last chance to get conservation time if you want to purchase a 2008 Deer Isle-Stonington Clam License.


STONINGTON Greenhead Road will be having extensive culvert and drainage work done for the next several weeks preparing for tarring in August. Traffic may be delayed briefly for laying cross culverts under the road. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Traffic concerns and delivery issues should be addressed to the Town Manager in advance so we may plan accordingly as much as we can with local businesses on a daily basis.


STONINGTON The Appeals Board will meet Mon., July 21, 6 p.m., at town hall to hear an appeal by Penny Parkinson of a building permit issued to Todd Devenish to replace a garage with a studio at 25 Thurlow Hill Rd. (map 8B, lot 49). The Board must find “good cause” to waive the 30 day appeal period before considering the appeal. The Board will then hear a variance request from R.L. Greenlaw & Son to construct a concrete berm within the 10 ft. property line setback on Bay View Ave. (map 8B, lot 74).


STONINGTON The Stonington Fire Dept. is requesting estimates for painting the Fire Dept. building on Atlantic Ave. For painting specifications and due dates for estimates, please contact Sonny at 367-5167.
